We propose an index which accounts for the volume and concentration of scientific production over time. The index takes the value r when an author, over his career, has had r years such that in each of those years, he has produced at least r publications. The index takes into account particularly periods of high and sustained productivity, giving less weight to spikes in productivity which cannot be sustained over time.
